A silent install allows the network administrator to install system drivers for all currently supported Intel wireless adapters without end user intervention.

Note The following information is intended for IT administrators, resellers, and integrators, and an advanced level of knowledge in information technology is assumed. This information is not intended for use by end user.

Silent installation process overview

The silent installation process uses the Microsoft* DIFx process. An application called IProDifX.exe installs and uninstalls the miniport NDIS driver. IProDifX.exe and the corresponding IProDifX.dll have the appropriate entries to perform the installation. Note that this program works only for Intel manufactured wireless network adapters.

When the IProDifX application is run after canceling the PnP hardware wizard, it installs the drivers. (The PnP dialog displays when the hardware is inserted into a system with an operating system without a currently installed appropriate Intel wireless LAN device.) After the driver is copied onto the system, the application triggers a rescan of the PCI bus to identify if a card is present and then installs the driver automatically.
